Charles County Scholarship Fund, Inc.

The Charles County Scholarship Fund Inc. is a non-profit organization that provides scholarships to Charles County high school seniors. The following county groups — the Charles County Commissioners, Charles County Public Schools (CCPS), the College of Southern Maryland and the Charles County Chamber of Commerce — are always represented on the Scholarship Fund Board. All other members of the Board are selected from the community at large.

How To Apply

PLEASE NOTE: Application progress cannot be saved. Please have the following documents ready to UPLOAD when you apply. The application will open on Monday, January 10, 2022 and will close on Tuesday, March 1, 2022.

  • Academic Letter of Recommendation  The letter of recommendation must be from a teacher, school counselor or other school administrator.
  • Personal Letter of Recommendation — Must be from someone who knows you well. (Not a parent or other family member)
  • Personal Statement Essay — Your essay is a statement regarding your academic and career objectives, goals and aspirations.  Your student statement is very important, and the Scholarship Committee relies heavily on this statement.  Please include the following: What are your educational and career goals? Why have you chosen these goals? How do you envision contributing to your community after you complete your education?
  • Resume — The resume must include: 1. Work Experience 2. Extracurricular activities 3. Community Service activities during high school 4. Leadership positions and 5. School and Community honors and awards.
  • If you want to be considered for need-based scholarships, you will need to provide a Copy of your 2022-23 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) Student Aid Report (SAR). (Confirmation page will be available to you once you complete the FAFSA).  All information supplied will be treated as confidential. The form is available at https://studentaid.gov/h/apply-for-aid/fafsa.
  • All scholarship applications must be completed and submitted by Tuesday, March 1, 2022.
  • Late applications will not be accepted.
  • Seniors should see their school counselor or their school’s College and Career Advisor if they have any questions/concerns.
  • Please ensure you have all required documents ready to upload to the application prior to starting to complete the form.

Jeremiah and Elijah Borgnis Memorial Scholarship Previous graduate or a graduating senior from a CCPS high school with a minimum 3.0 GPA, Charles County resident, must major in Visual Arts. $500
Unnae Pak-Borgnis Memorial Scholarship Previous graduate or a graduating senior from a CCPS high school with a minimum 3.0 GPA, Charles County resident, must major in Music. $500
Darren A. Bowie Scholarship Graduating senior from a Charles County high school (other than Henry E. Lackey High School) with a minimum 3.5 GPA who has taken two years of AP English, Charles County resident. $1,000
Charles County Teacher Education Assistance Grant Charles County resident who must major in Teacher Education and intend to apply for a teaching position in CCPS after graduation. $1,000 renewable
John H. Cox Memorial Scholarship Graduating senior/scholar athlete with two varsity letters and a minimum 3.75 GPA, Charles County resident. $1,000
Judy and John Bloom Memorial Scholarship Graduating senior from a Charles County public high school with a minimum 3.0 GPA who is a Charles County resident. Preference given to a student pursuing a career in Teacher Education. $1,000
Ronald G. Cunningham Scholarship Graduating senior from each CCPS high school with a minimum 2.5 GPA, Charles County resident who is planning to enroll full-time in Teacher Education. (One scholarship is given at each CCPS high school). $2,500
Harding Memorial Future Educator Scholarship Graduating senior from a Charles County high school who is a Charles County resident planning to enroll full-time in the fall in Teacher Education. Preference is given to a member of a high school chapter of Educators Rising. $1,000
William and Vivian King Scholarship Graduating senior from a Charles County high school with a minimum 3.2 GPA, Charles County resident. (One scholarship is given at each CCPS high school). $1,000
Kiwanis Club of Charles County Ronald G. Cunningham Scholarship An active Key Club member in good standing who is graduating from a CCPS high school with a minimum 2.5 GPA, Charles County resident. Must include a brief statement outlining your community participation through Key Club and an additional letter of recommendation from your Key Club Leader or club liaison. $500
La Plata Garden Club Scholarship Graduating senior with a minimum 3.0 GPA, Charles County resident and U.S. citizen who plans to major in Plant Science, Environmental Science, Animal Science or Horticulture at an accredited college or university. $1,000
Warren J. Luke and Betty F. Luke Scholarship –

Graduating senior from a Charles County high school with a minimum 3.5 GPA, Charles County resident who plans to enroll at a 4-year college. (Two scholarships given at EACH CCPS high school). $5,000

Graduating senior from a Charles County high school with a minimum 3.0 GPA, Charles County resident who plans to enroll at a 2-year college or an accredited vocational/technical school. (Two scholarships given at EACH CCPS high school). $2,500
Timothy Minor Criminal Justice Scholarship Graduating senior from a CCPS high school with a minimum 3.0 GPA, Charles County resident, must major in Criminal Justice. $500
Rachel Snyder Trade School Scholarship Graduating senior or former graduate from a CCPS high school who will attend or is attending an accredited vocational/technical school. Charles County resident. $500
Eric Sawchak Memorial Scholarship Graduating senior from a CCPS high school with a minimum 3.0 GPA who is on the high school golf team, Charles County resident. $1,000

Charles County Retired School Personnel Association Scholarship Graduating senior from a CCPS high school with a minimum 2.75 GPA, Charles County resident showing financial need, must major in Teacher Education. (One scholarship is given at each CCPS high school.) $1,000
James F. Kleyle Jr. Memorial Scholarship Graduating senior from a Charles County public HS with a minimum 3.0 GPA, Charles County resident showing financial need. Preference given to a student enrolling in Teacher Education. Consideration given to a student enrolling in Theater or Stage Management. (One scholarship is given at each Charles County public high school.) $1,000
John Howie Memorial Scholarship Graduating senior from a CCPS high school with a minimum 3.0 GPA, who played a high school sport for two years, Charles County resident showing financial need. (Two awards-one for a female and one for a male athlete) $500
Kenneth Bernard Proctor Sr. Scholarship Graduating senior from a CCPS high school with a 3.0 or lower GPA showing financial need, Charles County resident. $500
Robert Dean Stethem National Memorial Scholarship Graduating senior who is a U.S. citizen with a minimum 2.5 GPA showing financial need.  $1,000
Ronald G. Cunningham Nursing Scholarship Graduating senior from a CCPS high school with a minimum 3.5 GPA, Charles County resident showing financial need and planning to enroll in a college program to attain a BS in Nursing. $500
Rotary Club of Charles County (La Plata) Scholarship Graduating senior from a Charles County public high school with a minimum 3.0 GPA, Charles County resident showing financial need.  Personal interview with the Rotary Scholarship Review Committee will be required. (Minimum of one scholarship is given at each Charles County public high school.) $1,000
Starkey Memorial Scholarship Graduating senior from a CCPS high school, Charles County resident showing financial need, preference given to a student planning to attend West Virginia University. $500

Waldorf Lions Club Foundation Scholarship Graduating senior from a Charles County public high school with a minimum 2.5 GPA showing financial need who is a Charles County resident. Preference given to students with a sight or hearing disability as per the American with Disabilities Act (ADA) or students interested in studying in the field of diabetes support, vision, hunger management, community service or childhood disease management or treatment. Must complete scholarship specific essay. $5,000

(Two awards — one scholarship for a student entering a vocational/technical school and one scholarship for a student entering a 2- or 4-year college.) $500

Michael J. Anderson Memorial Scholarship Graduating senior from La Plata High School with a minimum 3.5 GPA, Charles County resident. Must complete an additional essay (up to 750 words) describing what “Service to Others” means to the student, drawing on high school experiences and efforts, and future plans and expectations. $1,000

Lizbeth Frazer-Fatig Helping Hand Scholarships Previous graduate or a graduating senior from North Point High School with a minimum 3.75 or lower GPA, who plans to attend college or an accredited vocational/technical school.
