Charles County Public Schools (CCPS) is sponsoring several summer learning opportunities for students. More than 40 camps are available and most start the week of June 18. A majority of sessions are offered Monday through Friday, in the morning and afternoon.
Summer Enrichment Camps
CCPS is hosting five weeks of summer enrichment camps at Benjamin Stoddert Middle School for students entering grades kindergarten through nine at the start of the 2018-19 school year. Camps begin the week of June 25 and end the week of July 30. No summer enrichment camps will be offered during the week of July 2.
Camps for kindergarten students will be held at Eva Turner Elementary School. The FUN with the Food Groups and Living, Loving and Liking the Lingo camps for grades seven through nine will take place at North Point High School, and the Summer Chef and Eat Dessert First cooking camps for grades six through eight are set to take place at Westlake High School.
Transportation and food are not provided. Space is limited and camps are filled on a first-come, first- served basis. Registration is open and cost is $90 per camp. Students enrolled in both a morning and afternoon camp can sign up for the lunchtime activity session, which runs from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., for an additional $10 per week. The lunchtime session includes free lunch and supervision between camps.
In order to register online, parents must sign up for a My School Bucks account and add their child to the account. Parents must also complete the summer enrichment camp registration form. Three on-site registrations are set for parents who want to register their child for a summer enrichment camp and pay by cash or check. They are:
- Monday, April 9, from 5 to 7 p.m., Waldorf West Library located at 10405 O’Donnell Place in Waldorf;
- Thursday, April 26, from 2 to 7 p.m., in Room 116 at the Charles County Public Schools Jesse L. Starkey Administration Building; and
- Thursday, May 31, 1 to 7 p.m., in Room 116 at the Starkey Building.
Financial assistance is available for students who qualify and some camps require an extra fee to cover materials. Camps that have low enrollment may be canceled with a full refund. The camp schedule is subject to change. Parents who need to cancel their child’s camp participation should do so two weeks prior to the start of the camp to receive a full refund. Henry E. Lackey High School Summer Youth Camp
Henry E. Lackey High School is hosting its Summer Youth Camp from June 18 through July 13 at the school. The camp is for students entering second grade at the start of the 2018-19 school year, and up to age 13. The camp includes supervised activities such as soccer, touch football, basketball, floor hockey, swimming, kickball and arts and crafts. James E. Richmond Science Center Camps
The James E. Richmond Science Center is hosting five week-long summer camps for students entering grades four through eight. The camps begin the week of June 18. Cost is $225 per week for registrations made prior to June 1, and $245 for all registrations completed June 1 or later. The camps include Starry Starry Night, Solar Quest, Science Detectives, Chemistry of All Things! and Extreme Engineering. There is a $40 one-time non-refundable registration fee per student. Nanjemoy Creek Environmental Center Summer Camps
The Nanjemoy Creek Environmental Education Center is hosting three summer camps for students. A Survival Camp is set for June 18-22 for students entering grades six through eight at the start of the 2018-19 school year. Two camps are set for the week of Aug. 13-17 – Explorers Camp for students in grades six through eight and a Birdwatching Camp for students entering grades five through 12. Camps run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Transportation is provided for the camps from the F.B. Gwynn Educational Center in La Plata. The bus leaves the Gwynn Center at 8:15 a.m. and returns at 3:45 p.m. Parents also can transport their children. Cost of the camps are $195 each session.

Sports Camps at North Point High School
North Point High School is hosting three sports camps for students ages 8 to 14-years-old. The camps run the week of June 18-22 and feature a boys’ basketball camp and a girls’ lacrosse camp. The boys’ basketball camp also runs the week of June 25-29. Cost is $200 for the basketball and lacrosse camps.
