  • Tamara Gordon, a social studies teacher at Westlake High School, was recently selected to participate in the Supreme Court Summer Institute later this month. The Institute is open to teachers in the fields of law-related and civic education, and sponsored by Street Law, Inc. and the Supreme Court Historical Society. During the Institute, participants study recent Supreme Court cases and learn innovative teaching methods to engage students. Speakers include Supreme Court lawyers, reporters, scholars and educators. Two Institutes are held in the summer annually, and only 30 participants are chosen to attend per session. Teachers must submit an application to participate. Visit http://www.streetlaw.org/en/events/CalendarEvent/129/2015_Supreme_Court_Summer_Institute_for_Teachers for more information.
  • Students at North Point High School celebrate Brotherhood-Sisterhood Week annually in April. During this event, students participate in activities that focus on civility, awareness of others, respect and embracing differences. This year, a group of North Point students in the education careers program, Future Educators Association and Teacher Academy of Maryland visited Berry and William A. Diggs elementary schools to teach lessons about community engagement and involvement. Students provided instruction to fourth- and fifth-grade students at Berry and Diggs.
