CCPS offering original credit for Fit for Life/Health course this summer

Charles County Public Schools (CCPS) is piloting a program this summer for students entering grades 9-12 at the start of the 2018-19 school year to complete the Fit for Life/Health course for original credit. Students would complete the course during the Summer School program held at Thomas Stone High School or the Robert D. Stethem Educational Center.

Space is limited to 300 students. Parents who are interested in signing up their child to complete the course this summer must complete an interest survey. The survey is available at https://tinyurl.com/ycspvqvq. CCPS will use the survey results to randomly select students for the course.

Parents/students must complete the survey by June 21 to be considered for the course. Parents will be notified by email on or before Monday, June 25 if their child was randomly selected to complete the course. No notifications will be sent to parents of students who were not randomly selected to participate.

Students who are selected to take the course this summer must complete the registration process at the Stethem Center. Two registration sessions are scheduled for 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., June 27 and June 28. Parents/students must bring the confirmation email of their selection for the Fit for Life/Health course (either paper copy or proof through email app on a cell phone), a completed Summer School registration form and the required $50 deposit.

Summer School registration forms are available at all middle and high schools and must be completed by the parent/guardian, verified by the school counselor and signed by the principal before registration. Stethem is located at 7775 Marshall Corner Road in Pomfret. Registrations will not be accepted after 6 p.m. on June 28.

Deposits are accepted in the form of cash, Visa, MasterCard, money order or certified check. If paying by credit card, the person named on the card must be present with photo identification. Payment can also be made through MyPaymentsPlus.

There are three sessions set for the Fit for Life/Health course: July 10-31 at Stone; July 25-Aug. 8 at Stone; and Aug. 13-24 at Stethem. The time for all three sessions is 7:30 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. Transportation is not provided. Call 301-934-7377 with questions.
