CCPS looking for committee members

Charles County Public Schools (CCPS) is looking for parent volunteers to serve on two school system committees. There are five openings on the school system’s Communications Advisory Committee (CAC) and four openings on its District Committee on Assessment.

CCPS District Committee on Assessment

The CCPS District Committee on Assessment includes parents, teachers and administrators. The school system is seeking four parent representatives to serve on the committee, representing the following groups:

•    A parent with a student in grades prekindergarten through 2
•    A parent with a student in grades 3-5
•    A parent with a student in grades 6-8 and
•    A parent with a student in grades 9-12

The state has tasked the committees to review Maryland’s use of assessment and testing in public schools and to make recommendations to local and state school systems on how to improve assessment. Volunteers will discuss recommendations for monitoring, evaluating and communicating the school system’s assessment programs.

The committee will meet a minimum of six times beginning in January. Meetings will be held 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. at the Jesse L. Starkey Administration Building in La Plata. Meeting dates are:

•    Jan. 19
•    Feb. 16
•    March 16
•    April 20
•    May 18
•    June 15

Communications Advisory Committee (CAC)

The CAC is 15-member committee composed of parents and staff who advise Communications’ staff from a parent and staff perspective about how they receive information from the school system and how to improve communications.

Volunteers for the CAC must commit to attend three evening meetings each school year. Vacancies will be filled immediately, and the next CAC meeting is 5:30 p.m. March 28, at the Jesse L. Starkey Administration Building in La Plata. Staff will present EduPoint, the new student information system that will replace Edline next school year.
