Charles County Public Schools (CCPS) is expanding its mobile meal bus service to more locations in Charles County. Beginning Wednesday, Jan. 6, school buses will deliver meal bags to additional locations convenient for all students and their families. The procedures take into account the virtual learning schedule currently in place for all CCPS students. The following are the updated procedures effective during Phase 1 of virtual learning. Charles County Public Schools (CCPS) is launching its Federal Impact Aid survey for parents. CCPS receives additional funding from the federal government for parents/guardians who are active duty military or work on federal property in Maryland. The funding is called “Impact Aid” and helps to decrease the impact of federal activity on school district operating budgets. In prior years, CCPS sent home paper survey forms to all students for completion. This year, the form is electronic and connected to ParentVue. The Charles County Scholarship Fund Inc. provides scholarships to Charles County high school seniors. The application goes live on Dec. 15 and closes March 1. On opening day — Dec. 15 — students and their parents can attend a Virtual Scholarship Fair from 6 to 8 p.m. to connect with representatives of groups offering scholarships. The fund boasts scholarships exclusive to Charles County Public Schools (CCPS) graduating seniors. A North Point High School senior blended design and school pride on a project to give back to the community. Takiyah Roberts created a T-shirt design to benefit the Breast Cancer Research Foundation resulting in a $500 donation. Developed under Roberts’s clothing brand, Undefined, the shirt was available to order for a limited time in October — Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The Board of Education at its Dec. 8 meeting unanimously voted to suspend its grading policy and allow the Superintendent to set a minimum grade of 50 percent for an F for the first quarter of this school year. The suspension of Board policy 5132.2 applies only to student grades for the first quarter for the current 2020-21 school year. Staff proposed the suspension to the Board to address concerns over increased numbers of students failing classes for the first quarter. The Board of Education at its Dec. 8 meeting honored five Charles County Public Schools (CCPS) staff members for their commitment to the school system and student success. Each month, the Board honors staff members chosen by their school principals who demonstrate their dedication to teaching and learning. The recognition ceremony was held in a virtual format and featured pre-recorded introductions and recognitions from school principals.
