Charles County Public Schools (CCPS) celebrated summer commencement exercises Aug. 8 at Thomas Stone High School. Thirty-eight members of the Class of 2018 earned their diplomas after finishing course work over the summer. “This accomplishment should not be taken lightly,” Marvin Jones, executive director of schools, said. “Through all of the challenges that you faced and all the opportunities to give up, you didn’t. You pressed on and you persevered. Charles County Public Schools (CCPS) is sponsoring a bus hotline for parents to call with questions about school bus routes. Call 301-932-6655 to access the hotline. The hotline is available 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Aug. 30-31, and 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 4-5. Parents can access bus route information for the 2018-19 school year after Aug. 17 through the School Locator feature available on the CCPS website, www.ccboe.com. The Board of Education’s next monthly meeting is Tuesday, Aug. 14 at the Jesse L. Starkey Administration Building on Radio Station Road in La Plata. The public portion of the meeting begins at 12 p.m. The meeting is televised live on Comcast Channel 96 and Verizon FiOS Channel 12, and rebroadcast throughout the week. Charles County Public Schools (CCPS) is hosting a summer school graduation ceremony at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 8 at Thomas Stone High School. A total of 31 students are expected to receive their Maryland High School Diploma during the ceremony. CCPS hosts a summer school graduation ceremony annually for seniors who are enrolled in the program and meet the requirements for their diploma.
