Georgia Benson, a rising senior at Westlake High School, is the student member of the Board of Education of Charles County for the 2014-15 school year. She was sworn in to the position by Board of Education Chairman Roberta S. Wise at today’s Board of Education meeting. The Board of Education’s next monthly meeting is Tuesday, June 10 at the Jesse L. Starkey Administration Building on Radio Station Road in La Plata. The public portion of the meeting begins at 1 p.m. and student and staff recognition starts at 4:30 p.m. The meeting is televised live on Comcast Channel 96 and Verizon FiOS Channel 12 and is rebroadcast throughout the week. Col. Donald M. Wade, a four-term member of the Charles County Board of Education and advocate of children and education, passed away on June 1, 2014. During his 16-year career on the Board he served three, one-year terms as chairman, and three terms as vice chairman. He was a lifelong resident of Charles County. Col. Wade was known for his passion to provide children with a quality education. Col.
