Charles County Public Schools is offering sports physicals this summer to student athletes. Physicals will be limited to the first 100 students and are done on a first-come, first-serve basis. A team of fourth-grade students from Dr. James Craik Elementary School, and a team of fifth graders from William B. Wade Elementary School earned the top spots in the Elementary Math Challenge, held Saturday, April 27 at Theodore G. Davis Middle School. Teams from each Charles County public elementary school participate in the two-part mathematics challenge that includes both team and individual competitions. Schools sent fourth- and fifth-grade teams composed of up to seven students each. The team challenge requires each team to solve four reasoning and problem solving questions. One Charles County Public Schools student – La Plata High School sophomore Ryan Burton – earned a second place award at the Maryland History Day competition held April 27 at the University of Maryland Baltimore County. As a second-place winner, he is eligible to compete in the national event, planned for June 9-13 at the University of Maryland College Park. Students are eligible to compete at the national level if they earn a first- or second-place award at the state competition.
