GOAL SETTING FOR YOUR STUDENT What is a goal? A goal is a task or objective that you want to achieve over time. For example, as a freshman, I want to pass all of my courses. Ten Steps to Developing Your Goal: 1. Visualize Your Goal- Visualize yourself already in possession of your goal. 2. Believe in Your Goal- Learn all you can about what you are seeking. 3. Define Your Goal- Many people have no goals. If you are not aiming for anything, it is impossible to reach any kind of target. Narrow down your goal to one at a time. 4. Make a Decision- Decision = Commitment 5. Put a Deadline on Your Goal- Have some short-term goals. 6. Write Your Goal Down on Paper- Be specific. 7. Verbally Share Your Goal with Others- This can help motivate you to accomplish your goal. 8. Develop a Plan or Method- What have you done in the past, and what must you now do to reach it? 9. Approach Your Goal with a Positive Outlook- Expect to succeed. 10. Develop Self-Motivation and Self-Discipline- Do whatever it takes to reach your goal.
