 FRESHMAN PARENT

PLANNING GUIDE

2008-2009

Congratulations! Your child is now a high school student. Freshman year is critical in the quest for a successful high school career. In order to help with the major transition from middle school to high school, this guide has been created especially for parents. It contains key information on how to help you and your freshman student make the first year in high school a good one. In addition, information for freshmen is also available online by accessing the TSHS webpage, http://www2.ccboe.com/stone/.

Did you know?

  • Grades from freshman year are the first to appear on your student's high school transcript.
  • The freshman year is 1/3 of what colleges see on a high school transcript when determining acceptance. Students will apply to colleges in the fall of their senior year (before senior year grades are calculated), which means acceptance is primarily based on ninth, tenth and eleventh grade courses and final grades.
  • Freshmen need a daily routine and structure to help them become successful high school students.
