Overview St. Charles High School is Charles County Public Schools’ seventh high school and is scheduled to open in August 2014. The school will serve as an anchor of a new green community underway in the St. Charles area and will offer opportunities to students and the community that include environmental and natural resource management, technology and current issues related to these fields of study. St. Charles High School will also contain several specialized features, available for use by all Charles County Public Schools students including a digital classroom, Science on a Sphere and Telepresence technology. The Board of Education in Sept. 2012 approved St. Charles High School to open as a partial high school with grades 9, 10 and 11.
St. Charles High School will offer the same program of study available to all high school students and all courses offered will meet requirements for students to obtain a Maryland State Board of Education diploma. Students can pursue a scholar’s course of study, enroll in Advanced Placement courses and participate in after-school activities, sports and clubs.
School Design
- Design plans include a 269,000-square foot vertical school that features four floors and 72 teaching stations. Construction began in fall 2012 on a 99-acre site off Piney Church Road in Waldorf, and is adjacent to the Regency Furniture Stadium. The state-rated-capacity is 1,600 students.
- Athletic features include a football stadium with an eight-lane track; bleacher seating for 1,500 home/500 visitors; 14 fields including football, baseball, softball, soccer, field hockey and lacrosse, and eight tennis courts.
