Guidance
Hello and Welcome!
My name is Zarina Ameen and I am the School Counselor at J.P. Ryon Elementary School. I provide a wide-range of services to help meet the needs of our students. Here is a little of what I do at J.P. Ryon:
Classroom Lessons
I regularly visit each classroom throughout the year and focus my lessons on various social skills. Some of the topics include:
- Good manners
- Peer pressure
- How to deal with bullying
- How to deal with teasing
- Career awareness
- Good listening skills
- Self-management skills
Groups
I work with small groups throughout the year which focus on learning specific social/emotional skills, such as:
- Friendship
- Coping with divorce/separation
- Coping with grief/death
Individual
I also work with students on an individual basis for a variety of issues. Students are referred to me from teachers, parents or self-referral. Some of the issues I address in individual counseling are:
- Friendship
- Changes at home
- Academic difficulty
I also coordinate school programs, meet with parents and teachers and refer families in need to outside agencies. If you have any questions about the services that I provide, or if I can help meet the needs of your child in any way, please feel free to contact me at school (301) 645-3090 or email me at zameen@ccboe.com. |
