Last day of school is June 10
Maryland State Superintendent of Schools Nancy Grasmick approved a one-day waiver to the 180-day attendance rule for Charles County Public Schools (CCPS) this school year. Schools were closed on Monday, May 12, due to flooding and road closures caused by a two-day rainstorm.
Superintendent of Schools James E. Richmond requested the waiver because the final day of school for students had already been set for June 10. Final exam schedules and promotion activities were also previously scheduled.
The waiver was granted by Grasmick and the Maryland State Board of Education after the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) reviewed the school hour requirement for CCPS and found that even with the waiver, CCPS has exceeded the school hour requirement at the elementary, middle and high school levels.
The last day for teachers is June 11.
