Thomas Stone students inducted into honor society

More than 35 Thomas Stone High School students were inducted into the W.E.B. DuBois Honor Society on Wednesday, March 12 during a ceremony held at the school.

Stone is the first high school in Charles County and Southern Maryland to offer membership. The society recognizes, encourages and promotes scholastic achievement, leadership development and active involvement in positive community activities that promote life-long learning skills.

In order to be eligible for induction, students are required to have a minimum grade point average of 3.3 and fewer than two absences per quarter. School staff screened sophomores, juniors and seniors who met these requirements. Interested students provided two letters of recommendation and completed an essay and 12 hours of community service.

The W.E.B. DuBois Honor Society originated at Hampton University and is open to secondary schools. Membership goals include maintain honor roll status, refine character, promote leadership and service, maintain high principles and values and increase scholarship opportunities.
