Board honors students for achievement
The Charles County Board of Education honored four students Tuesday, March 11 for their accomplishments in academic achievement, career readiness and personal responsibility, which are the focus areas of the school system's master plan.
The students who were honored are: Logan Cebryznski, fifth-grade student, William A. Diggs Elementary School; Vanessa Wood, fifth-grade student, Arthur Middleton Elementary School; Abby McElhenny, eighth-grade student, Piccowaxen Middle School; and Philip Wesbury, senior, Thomas Stone High School.
Cebryznski was honored in the area of academic achievement. He demonstrates personal responsibility and academic excellence in the classroom and models respectful behavior. He is consistently on the school honor roll and was named to the principal's honor roll for the second quarter. Diggs Principal Sandra McDuffie said he is a responsible role model for other students.
Wood was honored in the area of personal responsibility. She is on the principal's honor roll and has been on the honor roll each marking period since she was a third-grade student. She is a safety patrol member and a peer mediator. Middleton Principal Greg Miller said she is a hardworking student and is always friendly to other students and staff.
McElhenny was honored in the area of academic achievement. She has a 3.9 cumulative grade point average and serves as a role model and leader for other students. She is a member of the Future Educators Association and is involved in the National Junior Honor Society. Piccowaxen Principal Kenneth Schroeck said McElhenny is a bright student with a great future.
Wesbury was honored in the area of career readiness. He has maintained a 3.2 grade point average while serving as the captain of the varsity wrestling team, football team and swimming team. He also launched his own landscaping business in 2004, of which he handles all aspects. He has been named to the All-County wrestling team, the All-SMAC (Southern Maryland Athletic Conference) wrestling team and the first All-Academic SMAC wrestling team. He also received honorable mention in All-county football.
The Board honors several students each month for their accomplishments.
