What Do Pupil Personnel Workers Do?
Working with the Home
|
- Interpret the policies, functions and objectives of Charles County Public Schools
- Provide direct services to students with attendance, health behavior, family or home problems
- Assist in securing home teaching for eligible students
- Conduct home visitations as a means of conferring with parents in order to access the nature and extent of a student's school/social adjustment problems
- Investigate and expedite the enrollment of homeless children into the Charles County Public Schools
- Verify out-of-zone and out-of-county residence
- Assist in resolving guardianship issues

Working with the School
|
- Provide school personnel with pertinent information regarding out-of-school life of children and assists in evaluating the impact of home/community factors on the
student's school progress
- Conduct and coordinate in-service for professionals
- Participate with Student Support Team Members in providing a multi-disciplinary approach in solving the problems of children
- Assist students and staff during crisis situations
- Participate in the IEP process when appropriate
- Act as the student advocate in suspension and CIEP hearing
- Participate in parent conferences when appropriate
- Conduct home visits to help resolve school-related issues
- Conduct school-level attendance hearings

Working with the Community
|
- Explain pupil personnel services to the community
- Refer attendance cases to the office of the State's Attorney when appropriate
- Consult with community agencies and cooperate in case management
- Procure appropriate medical assistance, health and welfare services through community organizations
- Consult with and refer cases to Juvenile Court, District Court, and the department of Juvenile Services
- Represent Charles County Public Schools in meetings with private institutions and organizations
