Science Department Teachers:

The Science Department will be responsible for the instruction of the following for the 1st quarter:

6th Grade:

Recognize and describe the internal and external structure of the Earth
Recognize and explain how major geologic events are a result of the movement of Earth's crustal plates
Cite evidence to demonstrate and explain that physical weathering and chemical weathering cause changes to Earth's materials

7th Grade:

Design, analyze, and carry out simple investigations and formulate conclusions based on data obtained or provided.
Review of the Metric System and units contained within
Explain that the transfer and transformation of matter and energy links organisms to one another and their physical setting (environment)

8th Grade:

Review data from an experiment, summarize the data, and provide an argument about the cause-and-effect relationships in the experiment
Reinforcement of the Metric System and units contained within
Provide evidence and examples illustrating that many substances can exist as a solid, liquid, or gas depending on the temperature

Science Fair Information:

Science Fair Open House for Parents (Thursday, September 17th, 5-7 pm)
Science Fair Information Handed out to students (Wednesday, September 23rd and Thursday, September 24th)
Science Fair Due Date (February 16th, 2010)

All students completing a science project will need to have a composition book or spiral notebook, in order to keep a rough draft of all work done on science projects. This composition book or spiral notebook will be included with the display at the science fair.
