The Science Department will be responsible for the instruction of the following for the 1st quarter:
6th Grade:
- Recognize and describe the internal and external structure of the Earth
- Recognize and explain how major geologic events are a result of the movement of Earth's crustal plates
- Cite evidence to demonstrate and explain that physical weathering and chemical weathering cause changes to Earth's materials
7th Grade:
- Design, analyze, and carry out simple investigations and formulate conclusions based on data obtained or provided.
- Review of the Metric System and units contained within
- Explain that the transfer and transformation of matter and energy links organisms to one another and their physical setting (environment)
8th Grade:
- Review data from an experiment, summarize the data, and provide an argument about the cause-and-effect relationships in the experiment
- Reinforcement of the Metric System and units contained within
- Provide evidence and examples illustrating that many substances can exist as a solid, liquid, or gas depending on the temperature
- Physical and Chemical Changes
- Structure of Matter
Science Fair Information:
- Science Fair Open House for Parents (Thursday, September 17th, 5-7 pm)
- Science Fair Information Handed out to students (Wednesday, September 23rd and Thursday, September 24th)
- Science Fair Due Date (February 16th, 2010)
- All students completing a science project will need to have a composition book or spiral notebook, in order to keep a rough draft of all work done on science projects. This composition book or spiral notebook will be included with the display at the science fair.
