- Charles County Public Schools (CCPS) operates 20 elementary
schools, eight middle schools, six high schools, an alternative high
school center (NOVEL) and several other special centers.
- The Charles County Board of Education and Charles County Commissioners
are aggressively building new schools to relieve overcrowding. William
A. Diggs Elementary School opened in 2006; Theodore Davis Middle School
opened in August 2007; and Mary Burgess Neal Elementary School is
planned for opening in August 2008.
- Public schools in the county serve nearly 27,000 students.
- CCPS is one of the largest employers in Charles County with 3,397 men
and women working within the system. There are: 2,006 teachers, 1,093
support staff, 68 technical employees and 230 administrators.

Teacher Qualification Requests
The No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 allows parents to request the qualifications of their children's teachers and any paraprofessional that has direct contact with the student.
