DIVERSITY AND BLENDED CULTURE COURSE (DABC)The Diversity and Blended Culture Course was approved by the Charles County Board of Education in 1998, as one of the Ten Requirements to increase minority achievement. This class is a one credit, 15 hour course which was designed to address diversity issues and demographics in the Charles County Public School System and is required by all system employees.

MENTORINGAdults can make a difference in a young person's life through the mentoring program. Activities encourage students to achieve excellence in school. The mentoring program provides many ways to work with students. Last year 853 mentors worked with Charles County Public Schools students. Mentors can work with individual students and/or groups. JOB SHADOWJob Shadow Day is a national initiative that gives students a firsthand look at the world of work. Job shadowing can take many forms, but typically it encompasses a half-day visit by a student to a place of work. The student should have an opportunity to tour the site, "shadow" an employee for at least two hours and participate in workplace activities. For more information, call 301-934-7244.

MARYLAND MESAMaryland MESA (Mathematics, Engineering, Science Achievement) is a structured pre-college program dedicated to supporting and developing the interests, skills and abilities of elementary, middle, and high school students in science, technology, engineering and math. The program's goals are to increase the number of engineers, scientists, mathematicians and related professionals at technical and management levels. For more information, call 301-934-7244.

FUTURE EDUCATORS OF AMERICAFuture Educators of America (FEA), a subsidiary of Phi Delta Kappa, the national professional educators' fraternity, motivates middle and high school students of diverse backgrounds to pursue careers in education while studying teaching, working to improve the image of teaching, boosting faculty morale and linking students, teachers, parents and community. FEA chapters are in all middle and high schools for student's grades 6 through 12 who are interested in becoming educators. For more information about FEA, call 301-934-7244.
