Blast Off To Math
T.C. Martin has implemented a school-wide math fact program, "Blast Off to Math". The goal of the program is to increase students' speed and accuracy of basic math facts in the most individualized manner. Prior to beginning the program, students were given two assessments. One assessment determined the speed at which they could write numbers. The second assessment allowed them to pass out of levels previously mastered. Each week students are given two minutes to complete their goal for the week. Research has showen that students who have mastered facts should be able to recall the fact in 3 seconds or less. "Blast Off to Math" rockets are displayed in the main hallway. When a student passes a level, he/she will receive a star on the rocket. When a student completely passes out of an operation, a big star is placed on the ceiling tiles. Basic fact practice at home is an important part of success in our program. Below you will find some website resources to help your child master math facts.
