3rd Grade News  November Updates LiteracyLiteracy is our Reading, Writing, and Working with Words block. We will be finishing up Theme 2: Celebrating Traditions. We will begin Theme 3: Incredible Stories. We will read Dogzilla and The Mysterious Giant of Barletta. Some of the reading strategies we will focus on will be: comparing fantasy and realism, following directions and evaluating the text. The vocabulary focus will be on: dictionary meanings and using context to understand the meaning of the word. Some of our spelling strategies that we will study are: vowel sounds in clown and lawn, and the vowel plus r sounds. We will go through the writing process to write our own stories.
MathIn Math we will focus on multiplication and division. We will learn several strategies to solve multiplication and division. Please begin practicing the multiplication facts with your child. We will also work on our problem solving skills. This will be an ongoing math skill throughout the school year.
Health and Social StudiesIn Health we will use our Great Body Shops to study nutrition. We will look at the food pyramid and the types of foods we should be eating.
In Social Studies we will discuss Japan. We will begin by looking at the location and climate of Japan. We will also study the schools, people, and activities of Japan.
