Middle School
Language Arts/Reading
The gifted level language arts and reading class in grades 6-8 addresses the needs of students who require instructional experiences beyond the regular curriculum. Students explore a variety of texts using overarching concepts to guide each unit of study. The school-based gifted education resource teacher collaborates with the classroom teacher to provide appropriate levels of challenge through accelerated pacing and advanced content. Instructional strategies focus on critical reading, frequent discussion, advanced vocabulary, research, writing, speaking, and grammar.
Mathematics
Students who demonstrate high levels of achievement in mathematics take accelerated courses in middle school. Sixth graders may be placed in enrichment level math or pre-algebra. Seventh graders take pre-algebra or Algebra I, and eighth graders may take Algebra I or Algebra II. High school credit is earned for Algebra I and Algebra II. |
