Gifted Education Services
Elementary School
Reading
Students in grades 3-5 who have been identified for gifted services in reading receive instruction from their classroom teachers with support from the gifted education resource teacher. Students are grouped with peers of similar academic needs for instruction that may include the use of advanced texts, shared inquiry discussion, advanced vocabulary and/or novel study. The classroom teacher may use the following resources along with the Houghton Mifflin Reading Series:
- Junior Great Books
- The Jacob's Ladder Reading Comprehension Program
- Wordly Wise 3000, 2nd Edition

At times, the gifted education resource teacher may work with flexible student groups to provide further enrichment using the following resources:

William and Mary Navigator Units for Novel Study

William and Mary Language Arts Units for High Ability Learners
The gifted education resource teacher will monitor the progress of students who receive gifted services in reading.
Mathematics
Students in grades 3-5 who have been identified for gifted services in mathematics are placed in an accelerated math class. Instruction in this class is delivered by the classroom teacher with support from the gifted resource teacher. The accelerated math classes include advanced content, logic and critical thinking activities. |
