Guidance

Hello and Welcome.

My name is Mrs. Laury and I am the school counselor here at C. Paul Barnhart Elementary School.  I am here to help support students to ensure that their emotional needs do not interrupt their learning environment.  Some concerns that may require a meeting with the counselor are loss of a loved one, dealing with divorce and separation of parents/guardians, solving friendship issues, or even working out non-school related problems that may affect school.  There are also times where similar events are occurring for more than one student and may require a small and informal group for a short-term.

Students will also see the counselor in their classrooms conducting guidance lessons.  These lessons usually deal with character education, getting along with others, careers, or enhancing areas related to academics.  The lessons may involve stories, discussions, or activities.

Parents may encounter Mrs. Laury at some of the various meetings that occur here at the school.  I am a part of the Student Services Support Team meetings and participate in the Individual Education Plan team meetings.  As another advocate for students, I help to make sure that the needs of the student are addressed.
