Adult Education

The Charles County Adult Education Program offers a variety of daytime and evening classes including preparation for a Maryland State High School Diploma, English as a Second Language, and others.

Depending upon the type of skills needed, individuals may qualify to enroll directly in one of two pathways which lead to a high school diploma - General Educational Development (GED) or External Diploma Program (EDP).

Browse Our Programs for specific class descriptions and Contact Us for an appointment to help you decide which program is best for your needs.

Adult Education works closely with the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) to ensure that all programs provide the best up-to-date services for our adult learners.  Most classes are taught at the Lifelong Learning Center located in Waldorf on Vivian Adams Drive between the John Hanson Middle and J.P. Ryon Elementary Schools.  The External Diploma Program (EDP) is housed in the Adult Services Center which is situated in Waldorf on Leonardtown Rd. in front of Thomas Stone High School.

Childcare

Childcare is available, at the Lifelong Learning Center, for ages 2 months to five years while their parent attends daytime classes at the Center.

Orientation

Students, age 16 or older, who wish to work toward a high school diploma must first attend two short orientation sessions. During orientation the pathways to a Maryland State High School Diploma are presented. Students are evaluated before being assigned to a class. To register for the sessions, held once each month on either Thrusday evenings or Friday mornings, Contact Us.
